Facilities are structures that are built by players that allow the player to extend the capabilities of their empire. Facilities are built out of Structural Components and Building Components. There are many different types of facilities, and each type provides a unique interface to the game.
Facilities are the basic building blocks of ships and stations. Each facility is allocated a certain amount of space. When initially allocated, the facility is a Construction Zone. A Construction Zone enables players to build the facility. When completed, players can convert a construction zone into any of the facility types that it can satisfy the requirements for.
All facilities must be built inside of a Plot. A plot is a a volume of space within a ship or station. An Administration Center is used to partition a plot into a Plot Partition of a specific size. The plot partition will contain a Construction Zone. The Administration Center can also deallocate the plot partition, but only if it contains a Construction Zone and is completely disassembled.
When creating a new plot partition for a facility, players must specify the dimensions of the facility and have the option of including externally facing sides. The dimensions must fit into the parent Plot, and the parent Plot must have enough externally facing area on remaining to provide to the facility.
Once the Facility is allocated, the players Construction Zone is built, players can assemble the
Most facilities that are built are owned by a player and enable some aspect of a ship or station to that player. A public facility is one that has the capacity to be interacted with by other players. A simple example of a public facility is a Docking Bay. Players can configure their docking bay to be public facing with a configured amount of fees. When other players visit the ship or station, they will see the docking bay under the Public Facilities information block.

When a facility has externally facing sides enabled, it represents that part of the facility walls includes a section of the exterior of the ship or station. Externally facing sides enable additional capabilities within the facility when it is built. If a player wants to build a Docking Bay, the externally facing sides will become the size of the docking bay doors. The size of the docking bay doors can limit what ships can dock within that Docking Bay.
